A few weeks back, I picked up this six-in-one game set at a neighbor’s garage sale.

Game Set

It was marked $10, but I snagged it for $6. Haggles!

The woman selling it to me told me at least three times that she thought it would be perfect at the end of a bar.  (Did I have a bar?  No, I didn’t have a bar.  That’s a shame, because it would be perfect at the end of a bar!  That’s what she thought to herself when she saw that.  PERFECT.  At the end of a bar.)

This conversation / interrupted monologue got me thinking that if you did have a bar – or a game table, or even a coffee table – a game set like this would be a perfect place to put some art.  As long as you seal your work, the game can still be played.  If nobody feels like playing, the game set will still be adding something to your life.  Look at all of this winning!

As usual, all you need to make this happen for yourself (in addition to the game set) is sandpaper, gesso, and paint!  Just remove the slippery coat of varnish on that baby, and you’re good to go!

Original Backgammon Board

Originally, I was going to paint on the chess board, but backgammon!  Backgammon is as old as gaming itself!

Gesso Figures

I have been watching a lot of Battlestar Galactica lately.  That show is BURSTING with characters who play games with each other.

Flesh Tone

Cylon Model Six and Gaius Baltar. It’s a match made in Caprica. With a bomb. Going boom.

Dress without a Face Got No Human Grace

Six

Star Fields

Six, trapped in Gaius’ mind, and Gaius, trapped in not-quite-reality.  In the background, you can see I’m starting to add star fields in the black points.

FINISHED _JPD

And . . . finished!

Thank you so much! I think it would be really fun to play games on top of art! 😀

So awesome!!! I thought it was Marilyn Monroe and John Stamos when I saw them in the media library.. hahahah! This is a WAY better interpretation.

LOL! Six has a lot of outfits, most of which look like they were made from an ace bandage. This particular dress does look like a modified Marilyn number. 😀

So great! Your painting skills are just leaping forward! Terrific placement/composition of the figures. I love how one of the steps looks a bit like you put underwear on the woman. LOL. She is my fave of the two. Great swing to her dress! Also that would look great.. somewhere specific… OH! AT THE END OF A BAR. Amirite? 😛

You always have such great ideas for simple everyday items! Love the result!

Thank you, my sweet! I'm glad the items seem simple and everyday to you! Sometimes, I art up something that I think is ubiquitous, only to discover that it isn't. Whoops! 😉
